DOIN' THAT LIFE COACH THING
I have made significant changes in my life in the last two years. I haven't switched careers, got divorced, moved house, won the lottery, bought a sports car, or experienced any of the other major external things that one tends to think of when the word "change" comes up.
What I have done is learned to understand myself better. Not fully, but better. I didn't do it on my own. I had, and continue to have, the support and help of a Life Coach.
The greatest change that my Life Coach has helped me accomplish is just this:
- There are things that I have gifts and talents for
- So I do them well when they come my way
- When I do them I have every right, and indeed almost an obligation, to recognize that I am "in my place", and that joy should be the result
- This will benefit not just me, but those around me. Not only will my attitude positively affect others, but I intend that my actions will also
Own your Strengths
One valuable way to look at this issue is to consider your strengths and talents as "God-given". This means these are unearned gifts. To me this implies that you have both a right to enjoy them, and an obligation to use them for the benefit of others. My sense now is that these two are not in conflict, and that they are two sides of the same coin.
Not Done Yet
This process is far from over. There are setbacks. I'm not in control of what happens. People can be hell. I'm still not sure where I'm going with all this. I want to move towards contributing more, but I'm not sure what this will look like. What I can say is that my outlook on life has changed for the better, and this would not have happened without my Coach. Thank you, Anne!
